Access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing depend on their origin and intended use. Requirements must be assessed for each collaboration.
Document the origin
Identify the country or territory, locations, dates and provenance of the resources.
Check access requirements
Determine applicable rules and obtain permits and prior informed consent where required. Requirements can differ between French territories.
Agree on benefit-sharing
Define permitted uses and mutually agreed terms, including applicable benefit-sharing arrangements.
Manage use and transfers
Plan for traceability, required documentation, conditions for transfers to other teams and applicable due-diligence obligations.
